SAVED FROM DROWNING

Brothers Rescue Boy And Girl (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, March 10. Two brothers saved a boy from drowning and - helped a girl in difficulty in rough seas and a strong ebb tide off Takapuna beach this afternoon. The rescuers were Mr lan Knight, aged 32, of Clifton road. Takapuna, and his 17-year-old brother, Brian. The boy they saved is Edward Baynham, aged 13, of Hillary crescent, Takapuna. The name of the girl is not known. At about 2 p.m., Mr Leonard Knight heard the boy shouting for help. He told his sons who, unable to launch a boat in the boisterous sea and high wind, swam 60 or 70 yards out to the rescue. “When we caught up with him he was well and truly done in,” said Mr I. Knight tonight. “There was a very strong current sweeping him seawards. It was touch and go getting him up on to the rocks at the southern end of the beach.” The boy recovered without artificial respiration. The brothers were both bruised by the rocks. Shortly afterwards, the brothers helped out of the water a girl who was being buffetted and dragged back by waves as she tried to clamber on to the rocks.
