WEEK-END FIRES

Two small fires in motor-cars, caused by short circuits, were attended by the fire brigades on Saturday afternoon. The wiring of the cars was slightly damaged in each case. One engine from New Brighton answered the first call, at 12.39 p.m., on the corner of Oram avenue and Beresford street. The motor-car is owned by Mr Keith John Easterbrook. The second call was to Fitzgerald avenue, at 1.05 p.m., to a parked car belonging to Mr David Chapman. One engine from the Central Fire Station attended. When a section at 248 Gleneagles street was being burnt off, a pile of logs in the area caught fire. At 2.48 p.m. engines from the Central Fire Station and St. Albans and the Waimairi County Council’s water tender, were called. A part-owner of the property is Mr Kevin Meates. A grass fire in a section at 8 Marshall street, was put out by engines from the Central Fire Station and Woolston yesterday afternoon. The alarm was given at 1.48 p.m. The section was owned by Mr G. Jordan.
