Press Association—Copyright) MELBOURNE, March 7. “Australians are the paupers of the Pacific,” said the chairman and managing director of the Meyer Emporium, Australia’s biggest department store (Mr A. H. Tolley) last night. Back from a six weeks’ trip to America, Mr Tolley said he was “amazed at the complete falsity of the dollar-pound relationship. “The true value of the dollar in Australian shillings is about 4s 6d—but we have to pay more than twice that amount,” he said.
