“BRAIN-WASHING”

Sir,—My story has not been picked up from papers. In winter, 1947, red "Socialists” kept me for 18 days In an underground "coffin” —cell in which I could neither stretch nor stand upright, nor was I allowed to sit or lie down. With only a shirt and socks on I had to spend alternately 15 minutes with a guard in a corridor, then 15 minutes in a cell, day and night. For a week I was denied food and water because of "non-co-operation” with my interrogators. Six of my "accomplices” confessed to imaginary crimes. My body was blackened with cold and beatings. On the eve of the public trial prison officials promised a mild sentence in return for “reasonable behaviour” before the court. In need of a medical attendance, helpless and feverish, I accepted the bargain.—Yours, etc., RUBASHOV. March 8, 1957.

Sir. —In 1917 Russia decided that the obsolete system of royaltyfeudalism was an economic and social anachronism. They decided to change it from feudalism to communism. Immediately, they were attacked by “peace-loving” hypocrites who invaded their nation and killed millions. When this failed, they tried to starve the Russians to death. Tn spite of having to defeat and throw off these reactionaries. Russia has soared ahead and is now the second most powerful nation in the world. As the English were sewing up innocent Mahommedans in pig-skins, smearing them with pig-fat, and blowing them from cannon only 100 years ago, “A.M.” should keep quiet— Yours, etc., ONWARDS. Sir, —The sinister word "psychopolitics” means the art and science of asserting and maintaining dominion over the thoughts and loyalties of individuals. officers, bureaus and masses, and the effecting of the conquest of enemy nations through the utterly evil system of parading under the seemingly innocent title of “mental healing.” And the method? "Movements to improve youth should be invaded and corrupted, as this (the movements) might interrupt campaigns to produce in youth delinquency, addiction, drunkenness, and sexual promiscuity.” It seems almost incredible that in our modern civilisation we should find a system reeking so brazenly with satanic incitements to uninhibited evil in thought, word and deed, and so shamelessly and openly expressed in print. "By psychopolitics create chaos: leave a nation leaderless; kill our enemies, and bring to earth through communism the greatest peace man has even known" (Beria).
