POLICE CHIEFS TO CONFER

Australian And N.Z. Commissioners

(New Zeatand Press Association) WELLINGTON, Jan. 17.

The annual conference of police commissioners of New Zealand, the Australian states and outlying territories will this year be held in Wellington and Auckland.

The Minister of Police (Mr D. J. Eyre) will open the conference in Wellington on February 4 and after two days it will be adjourned to Auckland where it will continue until February 9. There will be nine overseas commissioners at the conference representing the Australian states, the Australian capital territory, Fiji, Papua and New Guinea. Means of promoting road safety are prominent on the agenda of the conference. The chairman of the Australian Road Safety Council (Mr T. G. Paterson) will attend and will discuss proposals from that council. He will spend a month in New Zealand to make a detailed study of accident prevention practice.
