William Talbert, non-playing captain of the United States Davis Cup tearii, said today that the United States must revise Us thinking on tennis or content itself with being a secondary figure in international competition. “If we are to compete with Australia, we must do it on Australian terms,” he said, alter arriving from Australia, where his Davis Cup team again was beaten 5-0 in the challenge' round. “We have a long and hard road ahead of us but we can regain our position if we work at it,” he said. Talbert said that to compete with Australia, the United States .must concentrate on its 13- and 14-year-old players and see that they were given the best yearround instruction. “The United States must change its emphasis on baseball, golf and other sports or allow tennis to become a minor sport,” he said. Vic Seixas is returning to Philadelphia where he hopes to enter a television career. Both he and Herb Flam insist that they will not be candidates for the next Davis Cup team. Sam Giammalva is returning to the University of Texas, where he is a junior.
