AUCKLAND CUP
Rearrangement Of Dates "The Press** Special Service AUCKLAND, December 27. Heavy rain overnight, accompanied by a gale, both of which were still very strong this morning, caused the Auckland Trotting Club’s committee to postpone the opening day of its summer carnival. The sudden change was unfortunate for the local trotting followers, for with the heavy downpour beating into the stands, seating accommodation was saturated. Although some provincial clubs fared badly in June and August with forced postponements, the Auckland Trotting Club has had only two in 25 years, the previous one being in May, 1953, when the second day was put back a week because of a water-logged track. The club has now asked permission to run the first day’s events on Saturday, the second day on Monday, and the third day on Thursday, January 3. Selections for the opening day are:— 10.45 a.m.—Selby Handicap: Supersnipe, Perekop, Astoria. 11.35 a.m.—December Handicap: Single Derby, Heather Mary, Cashier. pm - —Christmas Handicap: Milldona-Lee Scott bracket, Good Time, Logan Dell. 1.10 p.m.—Auckland Trotting Cup: Unite, Highland Air, Worthy Chief. 2 p.m.—Association Handicap: Recruit, Worthy Admiral, Chippy. 2.50 p.m.—North Island Challenge Stakes: Night Reveller, Lookaway, Panui. 3.40 p.m.—Akarana Handicap: Derive, Earl Marie, Loyal Cis. 4.30 p.m.—St. Heliers Handicap: Bartender, Trueco, Distant Star.
