First Rounds Played

The South Island bowling championships opened here today with the preliminary rounds of the singles. More than 200 players played on 17 town and country greens. Conditions were ideal.
Four rounds were played on the automatic two-life system, and at the end of the day 70 players remained. Seventeen went through the day without a loss, and 53 lost one game.
The unbeaten players are: W. J. Cole (Anderson's Bay). B. Noble (Te Rangi), W. Balch (Winton Central), A. Lister i Burwood), K. Robinson (Oxford), H. R. Henderson (Tapanui). E. C. Colville (Edgeware), R. G. Morrison (Waihopai), J. B. Rennie (Christchurch). A. Spencer (Waverley), A. L. Adamson (Waihopai), J. B. Newlands (Gore), D. D. Kerr (Te Rangi), T. J. Breayley (Waihopai), S. E. Stevenson (Palmerston), H. Hayworth (Sydenham), W. Belcher (Hampden).
