GAZA STRIP CONTROL

Israel’s Firm Attitude

(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) JERUSALEM, December 25.

The Israeli Prime Minister (Mr David Ben-Gurion) told the Knesset (Parliament) today that Israel would not allow Egypt to return to the. Gaza Strip. He was speaking to a motion calling for a debate on Gaza by the extreme Right-wing freedom movement member, Mr Menachem Beigin. Mr Ben-Gurion said it would not be in the public interest to hold a discussion on the future of the Gaza Strip. He stood by the statement he made last week—that the Government would not allow the Egyptians to return to the Gaza Strip.

Mr Beigin’s motion, which also called for an immediate halt to the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Sinai, was beaten by 52 votes to 18.
