MARKINGS ON AIR FORCE ’PLANES
IDENTIFICATION ON N.Z. AIRCRAFT (New Zealana Press Association) WELLINGTON, December 25. There is a possibility that the Royal New Zealand Air Force will adopt aircraft identification marks to distinguish its planes from those of the Royal Air Force, the Minister of Defence (Mr T. L. Macdonald) said yesterday. He was commenting on a proposal in the New Zealand Returned Services’ Association journal. “Review,” that suitable Royal New Zealand Air Force emblems would be two fern leaves or designs incorporating the Southern Cross or a kiwi.
“The Air Board will shortly consider a number of proposals designed to give New Zealand aircraft their own identification marks,” said the Minister. He added that consideration of the proposals did not itself mean that any change would necessarily be made. In any event, it was unlikely that there would be a change in the form of the Royal New Zealand Air Force Ensign which had been approved by King George VI.
