TWO-DAY MATCHES BEGIN

Saturday saw the commencement of two-day matches by the top six senior teams in the North Canterbury competitions. The lower five senior teams have joined with the six junior teams form the Senior B competition. Carleton has been declared the winner of the junior cup. Results of matches played on Saturday were:— Senior A Kaiapoi 195 (Rapley 100. R. Hppkins 51; I. Sail five for 51, Devlin three for 31) Rangiora 2 for no wicket. Ohoka 240 (J. Blakely 121. J. Scott 49. L. Freeman 14. W. Vette 17; G. Smith four for 43, D. Gardiner two for 47) Amberley 45 for one wicket. Loburn 127 (Clark 43, Simpson 14, Criglington 25, G. McCrenor 20; Robertshaw three for 13, Moody three for 15) Woodend 56 for six wickets (Moody 29, J. Cobden 15 not out).

v Senior B Old Boys 139 for eight declared (Milne 30. Hallow 26, Burgess 20, Smith. 19; A. O’Loughlin three for 35, P. O’Loughlin two for 25) drew with Swannanoa 139 for five wickets (Fraser 85. R. Frizzell 21 not out, Carpenter 19; Milne two for 30).

Oxford 70 (Jarvis 25, Ingram 17, Henderson 10; L. Beere three for 9, T. O’Loughlin three for 17) lost to Carleton 85 for six (T. O’Loughlin 23. G. Inch 18. L. Beere 14; R. Green three for 28).

Cust 68 (Gainsford 33; F. Steere three for 15. L. Bailey three for 13, D. Gunby three for 5) and 70 for six wickets (Gainsford 49 not out: F. Steere two for 21) lost on the first innings to Eyreton 143 for nine declared (J. Steere 31, J. Adams 23. R. Bennett 25, L. Bailey 23, W. Adams 12. D. Steere 18: Gainsford four for 38. Fidler two for 16, Page two for 48). High School 115 for six declared (Vickery 45. Pulley 19, Broughton 23; W. Boyce two for 28. Blunden two for 40) beat Amberley 98 (Ford 30, Bailey 15; Pulley five for 16, Lawrence two for 24, Ivory two for 22). Rangiora beat Kaiapoi by default.
