WALTHAM LEADS IN SENIOR GRADE

Gaining a first innings win over Beckenham in the fifth round, Waltham took the lead in the Suburban Cricket Association senior grade competition. Beckenham, in its first innings, jnade 146 and Waltham made 211 for the loss of seven wickets, and declared. Beckenham made 85 for the loss of five wickets, and Waltham won on the first innings. Matchless scored 203 for the loss of nine wickets against New Brighton, which scored 132, and secured a win on the first innings. Sumner beat Papanui outright, scoring 107 and 138 for seven wickets. Papanui made 82 and 157. Competition points at the end of the fifth round are:—Waltham 23, Sumner 22. Beckenham 20, Papanui 14, Matchless 12, New Brighton 10. Reeves 44) beat New Brighton 132 and 93 for one wicket by 71 runs on the first innings. For New Brighton, R. Hill took four for 83 and A. Smith three for 51. Waltham 211 for seven wickets declared (Newfield 74, Warr 46, Milne 39) beat Beckenham 146 and 85 for five wickets (Colombus 35) by 65 runs on the first innings. For Beckenham Griffiths took three for 82 and Tibbotts two for 82. SENIOR B GRADE Beckenham 182. and 95 beat W.M.C. 121 and 124 for nine wickets (Gillard 23) by 61 runs on the first innings. Wigram 154 and 123 (Cousens 38) beat Spreydon 186 for five wickets declared (Brownlees 54, Thompson 41 not out, Candlish 31) and 61, by 30 runs. For Wigram Barson took three for 36 and four for 19, and Cameron three for 21; and for Spreydon Kinnon took four for 45. Kempthornes 214 beat Shirley 109 and 92 for nine wickets by 105 on the first innings. For Kempthornes Bennetts took five for 31 and Grammer three for 23. JUNIOR A GRADE Waltham 206 (Jones 56, Campbell 44, Carrington 23) beat Hay’s 155 (James 54, De Lore 23, Tootle 21) by 51 runs on the first innings. For Waltham, Angus took four for 46 and Hay four for 60, and for Hay’s James took five for 51 and Welt two for 6. Addington 245 (Roberton 105 not out, Childs 61, Day 32) beat Riccarton 221 by 24 runs. Heathcote 196 beat Matchless 190 (Kennedy 63 not out, Spicer 40, Mallard 31) by six runs. JUNIOR B GRADE Papanui 90 and 64 for four wickets (Little 29 not out) beat Opawa 46 and 106 (Woodhaifi 31, Mitchell 22) by six wickets. For Papanui, Eder took six for 44. Hillsborough 214 (Wakefield 59) beat New Brighton 66 and 70 for two wickets (Armstrong 36 not out) by 148 runs on the first innings. For Hillsborough, Smitheram took six for 29 and Courtier three for 28, and Hands two for 5. Aranui 245 and 16 for three wickets beat W.M.C. (Cullen 27) and 147 (Barnard 57, Hamilton 44) by 124 runs on the first innings. For Aranui, Kane took three for 32 and five for 46, and Eyres three for 22. JUNIOR C GRADE Kempthornes 166 and 104 for two wickets declared (Giddens 36) beat Beckenham 103 and 129 (Wright 76) by 38 runs. Merivale 153 for eight wickets declared beat St. Albans 77 and 72 by an innings and four runs. For Merivale, Pearce took four wickets for 10 runs. Waltham 107 and 204 (Delanski 73. Wildermoth 36, Gy de 36) beat Halswell 183 (Withers 50) and 64 (Skinner 26 not out) by 64 runs. THIRD A GRADE Sumner 138 for eight wickets (Guilder 39. Murdoch 22 not out) beat Grosvenor 132 (Burton 57 not out. Garth 29) by two wickets. For Sumner, Shanahan took five for 33, and Murray three for 9, and for grosvenor Collings took three for 16 and ambles three for 33. Templeton Farm 144 (Hill 51, Feck 35, Alexander 20) beat Sunnyside 116 (Ockwell 27) by 28 runs. For Templeton, Loveridge took three for 46, and for Sunnyside Magon took five for 13. W.M.C. 160 for four wickets declared (Fraser 29, Fox 50 not out. Booth 37, Piper 22 not out) drew with Riccarton 157 for seven wickets (Smith 25, Corboy 32. Dawkins 41, Cole 21). For W.M.C. Piper took four for 38. Harewood 114 for four wickets (Greenwood 31 not out, Stanley 25) beat Shipping 94 (Manson 30) by six wickets. For Harewood Mcßeth took three for 8, O’Neill two for 30, and Greenwood two for 22, and for Shipping Manson took two for 24. Sumner 134 for eight (Golder 39, Murdoch 22 not out; Collings three for 16) beat Grosvenor 132 (Burton 57 not out, Garth 29: Shannahan five for 33, Murray two for 9). THIRD B GRADE Merivale 157 for four wickets (A. Keyes 82 not out, Wilson 35) beat Heathcote 144 (Bate 87). For Merivale > Dobbs took five for 18. Shirley 86 (Allen 23, Rogers 21) beat Hillsborough 53 by 33 runs on the first innings. For Shirley Allen took five for 24 and Choate two for 11, and for Hillsborough Turner took two for 15 and Lomas four for 31.

Cambridge Terrace 127 for three wickets declared (Tanner 65 not out, Andrews 45) beat Spreydon 110 (Clark 32, Tining 31, Armstrong 24) by 17 runs on the first innings. For Cambridge Terrace Tanner took four for 24. Harewood 94 for six wickets declared (R. Hunt 26, D. Hunt 18) and 8 for one wicket beat Waltham 67' (Reid 30) and 47 by 27 runs on the first innings. For Harewood Cains took four for 9 and two for 16, Turner five for 29, and Hunt five for 8; and for Waltham Burleigh took three for 29 and Tempelton two for 16.

Beckenham 69 for four wickets declared (Moore 34, Wear 20) and 50 for four wickets drew with New Brighton 60 (Le Gros 27) and 75 for seven wickets declared. For Beckenham, D. Logan took four for 4 and three for 7 and Moore two for 30 and Craig two for 18; and for New Brighton King took two for 12.

THIRD C GRADE Wigram 227 (Hughan 107, Watson 30) beat Papanui 40 by 187 runs on the first innings. For Wigram Bond took six for 14. Beckenham 96 (Davison 20) beat St. Albans 94 (Clyne 23, Lamb 24) by two runs on the first innings. For Beckenham Davison took four for 16, Carlisle two for 5, and N. King two for 8; and for St. Albans Miller took six for 26 and Clyne two for 8. Riccarton 134 (Field 53) beat Mairehau 115 by 19 runs. For Riccarton Shearer took four for 15.
