BRABIN SHIELD TEAM

DRAWN MATCH WITH ASHBURTON

The honours were with the Canterbury Brabin shield team which met an Ashburton eleven in a drawn practice match at Fairfield yesterday. But for the game being stopped early because of the rain and the loss of another three-quarters of an hour earlier in the day, it is very likely that the Brabin shield team would have won.

Scores were:—Canterbury, 216 for nine wickets declared (J. Capstick 45, G. Dowling 45, J. Ward 33. E. K. Austin 30, K. Thomson 27, J. Dawson 18 not out, and D. Hill 12 not out); H. Cullen two for 23, C. Price two for 45).

Ashburton 98 for eight wickets (C. Price 34, R. Horton 18; R. Prouting two for 13. R. Cole one for 4, G. K. Austin one for 15, D. Hill one for 15, R. Rapley one for 16).
