Dunsandel And Irwell

Equal In Points

At the end of the final round of the Ellesmere Cricket Sub-Association’s shield competition on Saturday, Dunsandel and Irwell were equal with 36 points each. It is not yet known whether the two teams will play off or be co-holders of the shield.

Irwell was too strong for Springston and as a result of sound innings by M. Dick (55), G. Wilson (41) and G. Rennie (35) was able to declare with 170 runs for six wickets. G. Wright struggled gamely to keep Irwell’s scoring rate low, and he took four for 40.

The highest score on Saturday was by Dunsandel’s P. Buckenham, who made 86, including 10 fours and a six, against Lincoln. Dunsandel also had the benefit of sound batting by J. Walker (37) and M. Barnett (35 not out), and the side declared its innings closed with six wickets down for 212. A. Riordan was the most successful bowler for Lincoln, taking four for 40. Lincoln fought back gamely and made 133 for seven wickets before the close of play and forced a draw. Bowling for Dunsandel, M. Frampton took four for 45. The final position of the teams is:— Dunsundei 36 points, Irwell 36, Leeston 34, Lincoln 29, Weedons 26, Lincoln College 21, Burnham Military Camp 17, Southbridge 12, Springston 5. Details:—

Wilson two for 23, N. Heslop two for 10) and 76 (E. Tweedy 33. O. Bailey 13. I. Lancaster 11; G. Wilson four for 24, M. Dick two for 17) outright by 47 runs. Dunsandel 212 for six declared (P. Buckenham 86, J. Walker 37, M. Barnett 35 not out; A. Riordan four for 44) drew with Lincoln 133 for seven wickets (Neil Wallis 46, A. Evans 30. M. Wallis 19, A. Riordan 15; M. Frampton four for 45, P. Buckenham two for 63). Weedons beat Burnham Military Camp by default.

The first round of the sub-association’s competition for the Bailey Memorial Cup will begin on January 5.
