LADY HARRISON

Australian Hostess In London (By SUSAN VAUGHAN)

Lady Harrison, wife of Sir Eric Harrison, the new Australian High Commissioner in London, needs to have no worries about her new home at Hyde Park Gate, into which she will move this week. She was with her husband in. 1950 when he bought the house on behalf of the Australian Government, and was herself responsible for the interior decoration and choice of furnishings. Her husband was then Resident Minister in London, and they chose Stoke Lodge, a big Georgian mansion with a beautiful garden, as the High Commissioner’s official residence. “1 fell in love with the house.’’ said Lady Harrison. At the time, she could, have had little idea that she would one day live there. Soon after choosing the house, they had to return home, and her husband was appointed Minister of Defence. Sir Eric and Lady Harrison have four daughters, and share an interest in golf. He always gives her a stroke a hole, and very often she comes back to the club-house an easy winner.

It was Sir Eric Harrison who made the arrangements in 1948 for the Australian tour of King George VI, which had to be cancelled at the last minute. He also had charge of the Royal tour of 1954. Lady Harrison wrote a book on the tour called “Me, Too.” She plans to write another in England.
