ROYAL CHRISTMAS

QUEEN LEAVES FOR SANDRINGHAM CROWDS CHEER ROYAL PARTY AT TRAIN (N2 Press Association—Copy vtaM) (Rec. 10 p.m.) LONDON, Dec. 22. Holiday crowds cheered and shouted “Merry Christmas” as the Queen, her children, the Queen Mother, and Princess Margaret left London bytrain yesterday for Sandringham, where they will spend Christmas. The Queen led two of the Royal Corgi dogs and Prince Charles and Princess Anne held two puppies on a lead as they walked down the platform.

It was at the Royal country house, 24 years ago that King George V, made the first Sovereign’s Christmas broadcast. The Queen will follow the tradition this year and speak to people throughout the British Commonwealth from her grandfather’s study. Only the Duke of Edinburgh, now on a world tour, will be missing from the family circle at the Christmas dinner of turkey and plum pudding.
