WANGANUI RIVER JOURNEY

MANY TO ATTEMPT TRIP NEW PLYMOUTH, December 23. More than 100 persons will attempt the 144-mile trip down the Wanganui river from Taumarunui this summer. It is estimated that about 80 will take part in the largest single party triporganised by the New Zealand Canoeing Association. The party will include several Australians. On Christmas Eve 16 members of the Kupe Canoe Club from Wellington will arrive at Taumarunui and they, too, will leave for Wanganui on Boxing Day. A day later a party of 12 senior scouts will begin a survey trip down the river for about 80 scouts who are expected to cruise next year. It is expected that several other individual parties will also begin the river course.
