STAFF MISSION IN U.S.

GROUP CAPTAIN GILL’S APPOINTMENT

(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, December 20. A senior Royal New Zealand Air Porce officer, Group Captain T. F. Gill, will succeed Brigadier W. S. McKinnon, as head of the New Zealand Joint Staff Mission in Washington. the Minister of Defence (Mr T. L Macdonald) said today. Group Captain Gill was deputy Chief of the Air Staff before leaving for England this year to attend a course at the Imperial Defence College. He will be promoted to the temporary rank of air commodore before he takes up his new post early in the new year. Born in Wellington and educated at St. Patrick’s College, Group Captain Gill joined the R.N.Z.A.F. in 1938. He flew both bombers and fighters during the war and was a fighter pilot in the Battle of Britain.
