Gentry’s Good Trial For Ashburton
"The Press” Special Service INVERCARGILL, December 20. Gentry, which is to contest the New Zealand Champion Stakes at Ashburton on Boxing Day, did a good trial at Gore last Saturday. He paraded against a 3m in 29sec class field, broke up at the start and was soon badly placed . But about two furlongs from home he was able to work clear and into the straight he was giving the leaders several lengths. In the circumstances he did well to get up for second within a neck of Responsive, which had paced her last mile in 2min 11 4-ssec, and her last half in Imin--5 3-ssec. Gentry seems to have thrived since he raced at Addington last month.
