FLOOD-WARNING DEVICE.—Eight miles upstream from the Tangiwai railway bridge, on the Whangaehu river, this concrete pylon carries a warning device comprised of a series of electrodes. Connected by cable to audible and visual alarms in the Waiouru station and an audible alarm in the train control office at Ohakune where it will register the river level. It was brought into use on Wednesday.
