Deportations Vote In U.N.
NEW YORK, November 21. The United Nations General Assembly formally called on Soviet and Hungarian authorities today to stop deporting Hungarian citizens to the Soviet Union.
The roll-call vote on a Cuban resolution for this purpose was 55 to 10. with 14 abstentions.
The Assembly also approved a resolution sponsored by India. Ceylon, and Indonesia urging Hungary to aeqept United Nations observers “without prejudice to its sovereignty.” Those voting against the Cuban resolution were the nine Soviet Bloc countries and Jugoslavia.
The resolution said the assembly had “received informtion that the Soviet Army in Hungary is forcibly deporting men. women and children from their homes to places outside Hungary.”
