GOLDEN WEDDING
MR AND MRS A. MUIR Mr and Mrs Alexander Muir, 14 Estuary road. South Brighton, will celebrate their golden wedding anniversary today. Both Mr and Mrs Muir were educated at. the Hornby School. They were married at St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church. Cashel street, by the Rev. Mr Elmslie, who had married Mrs Muir’s parents. Mr and Mrs James Miller, of Upper Riccarton. Mr Elmslie also baptised Mrs Muir.
After leaving school. Mr Muir worked as a slaughterman at the Islington Freezing Works and when the city abattoirs were opened at Sockburn he joined their staff and remained there for 35 years.
Mr Muir hag always taken a keen interest in the sport of cycling. Though he did not ride himself, he trained many well-known Canterbury cyclists, including his son. Mr W. Muir, of Pine avenue, South Brighton. Others he trained were Messrs R. McGrath. W. Weir, H. Quill and W. Fiddler. For many years Mr Muir was president of t’ •> Paparua Cycling Club.
Mr and Mrs Muir have one son and four grandchildren. They have been subscribers to “The Press” for 50 years.
