TROTTING EIGHTEEN TWO-YEAR-OLDS TO PARADE AT ASHBURTON

Eighteen two-year-olds will race in a parade at trials to be held by the Mid-Canterbury Owners’ and Breeders’ Association at Ashburton on Tuesday. The majority of them will be candidates for the first contest for the New Zealand Golden Slipper Stakes, a race with a stake of £ 1000 to be run at the Waimate Trotting Club’s annual meeting on Saturday, December 8. The parade will be run in two heats. The Templeton trainer, D. G. Nyhan, has three horses entered for the parade. All of them are from the first crop of the champion pacer, Johnny Globe. The progeny of Johnny Globe made their first appearance at Kaikoura last month when they filled the first two placings in the parade. Space Patrol, which finished second to Au Fait at Kaikoura, will race again at Ashburton. He is a good type of bay colt from Golden Lady, by Gamble from Light Wings, the dam also of Lightning Lady, Emulous Filigree and Sirocco. Dresden Lady, Chandelier and Luminous are also closely related to Golden Lady. Nyhan has a great record with members of the family founded by Light Wings and Space Patrol looks likely to extend that. Golden Lady was never extensively raced because or recurring soreness, but in the little racing she had she showed considerable promise. A colt by Johnny Globe from Pirouette will be making his first appearance at trials. Lady Slipper, the dam of Pirouette, was a winner and is also the dam of Cincinnatus, Lady Jane, Provident and the promising three-year-old, Dune. Pirouette was a smart race mare and won the Great Northern Stakes in 1946. Nyhan’s third representative is Au Fait, a filly from Dauphine, a winner at the pacing and trotting gaits. Dauphine was by Light Brigade from Belita, tracing back to Eerthabell. founder of one of the finest winning families in the New Zealand Stud Book. Au Fait created a good impression when she won at Kaikoura, pacing the last four furlongs in the smart time of Imin 5 2-ssec. Trainer of Glint R. H. Negus, of Springston, who has had considerable success with the Whipster mare, Glint, will have two youngsters at Ashburton. The first will race as Super Joan. She is a filly by Whipster from June Bar, by Gold Bar from Lady June, by Jack Potts from June Nordica, the dam also of Forest Jewel and Globestock. Lucky Surprise is a gelding by Lucky Hanover from Warform, by U Scott from Erin’s Pointer, the dam also of Colonel Grattan, an outstanding winner for his breeder, E. C. McDermott, who died when driving him in the New Zealand Cup..

G. B. Noble will have Mon Amour, a filly by U. Scott from La Mode, and Whippy Dillon, a gelding by Whipster from Real Fortune, at Ashburton. La Mode, which did not race, was by Springfield Globe from Pariesienne, the dam also of La Mignon, Golden Hero, and Scotch Paree. She is bred to be a cood winner. The Whipster gelding was purchased for 350gns at the last yearling sales by the late Mr A. T. Cartwright. Real Fortune, an unraced mare, is a member of one of Southland’s outstanding winning families, that founded by Misfortune. Among the best winners of this family have been Loyal Peter, Maida Dillon, Erinack, Belshazzar, Onward, Stirling Castle. Mineral, Jason’s Quest and Highland Flirt.

The Tinwald trainer, D. J. Townley, will produce Kotuku, a gelding by Medoro from Tracebearer. There was no bid for him at the, last yearling sales. He is closely related to Elack Art. Brentloc, Radiant Gold and Sand Piner. Royal Blend, which is trained by F. McKendry, is a filly by Worthy Monarch, which is out of a sister to Greyhound, from Full Share, by Young Bob from Double Measure, the dam of Venetian, Schwanda and Bugle Call. Shyrosa, which is trained by E. Forsyth, is by Icevus, which died recently, from Surosa, by Quite Sure from Amosa, by Drusus. O. E. Hooper will produce Rosalinda, a filly by Springbok from a winner in Star Ace, dam also of Star Rosa. Mayenga, Titania, Consul, Starwise and Stellar. This is the same familv which produced a fine winner in Knave of Diamonds, and other winners, in Fragment, Privateer. Radical, 'Czardus and Magellan. By Van Logan Epic Battle, a gelding by Van Logan from a smart race mare in Trireme, is trained by C. E. Smith. Trireme is also the dam of Pamir and Lucky Choice, which left Royal Crown. G. F. Middleton will be represented by a filly by Logan Scott from Merry Message, bv Quite Sure from Merry

Bow, the dam also of Commentator. This is the same family which produced the promising Marawiti. Interest will be taken in a colt to be produced by I. M. and W. E. Scoon. He is by the Gold Ear horse, Brahman which graduated to New Zealand Cup class last week, from Roseal, the dam of a grand race mare in Merval. This is the same family which produced a host of winners, including Lucky Jack, for Mr W r . T. Lowe, of Hinds. G. McKendry, who owned and trained Burns Night, will have a filly by that horse from Bendemeer Stream, which took a two-mile record of 4min 17 4-ssec. She was by Springfield Globe from the Grattan Loyal mare. Loyal Rose. •H. R. Henderson has a filly by the Springfield Globe horse, Croughton. from Rainy Voyage, the dam also of Kauranui, by Happy Voyage from Lady Vaulsbury. Copper Bob. a member of T. E Bishop’s team, is a gelding by Young Bob from Swift River, by First Globe from Deep River. The field is completed by a filly by Light Brigade from Admiration in A. M. Purdori’s Prebbleton team. She was sold for 550gns on behalf of Mr G. Aitchison, Palmerston, at the last vearling sales. Admiration is also the dam of Esteem, Adoration and th* 1 promising Achates. Admiration is a member of the Bonilene family, which has produced a host of fine winners, including A dorian, Morano, Denbry, Guiseppe, Bayard, Captain Morant. Secure. Red Valley and Forward.
