GODLEY RELICS FOR MUSEUM
BEQUEST UNDER WILL OF DAUGHTER
The Canterbury Museum will receive several relics of John Robert Godley and Charlotte Godley as a result of a bequest made by their daughter, Miss Frances Godley. w’ho died recently at the age of 102. They include a day bed taken to, New Zealand by the Godleys; the dress uniform and hat worn by John Robert Godley when he was agent for the Canterbury Association: some clothing which belonged to Charlotte Godley; and pencil drawings of both. A collection of pressed ferns and algae made by the Godleys in Canterbury, a .small round table made of New Zealand wood and presented to Charlotte Godley in Canterbury, and an oil painting of their only son. Arthur, at the age of two, complete the collection. At present the gifts are at Summerfield. Great Malvern, and the cost of shipping them to New Zealand is expected to be about £5O. At a meeting of the Canterbury Museum Trust Board, the board endorsed the action of the director of the museum <Dr. Roger Duff) in expressing the museum’s gratitude for the bequest.
