“ROMEO AND JULIET”
Sir,—The film showing in the city at present in a masterpiece of art. The colour, acting, and music are of a high quality. I believe that such art is international and that it can be a powerful force for peace. When we read of the brutal action of the Russians in Hungary, we forget that they are just carrying out orders received from some heartless military leader. The Russian people are not very different from us. They love music and beauty just as the people in England and America do. It is only when propaganda stirs up hatred and distrust between nations that the human element of mankind is forgotten. “Romeo and Juliet” can be a lesson to East and West. Two families fight each other until they are made aware that tragedy and sorrow is the ultimate end —unless peace and love .once more reign between them.—Yours, etc., WORLD PEACE. November 16. 1956.
