SYDNEY-HOBART YACHT RACE

Start On December 26

(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 9 p.m.) SYDNEY, November 16. Cruising yacht club officials expect a record field of about 30 yachts to contest the 680-mile Sydney to Hobart race this year. The race will start off Double Bay. in Sydney Harbour, at 11 a.m. on December 26. For the first time, there will be a “curtain raiser” race for inter-State yachts between Melbourne and Sydney. Entries for the Sydney-Hobart event will close on December 10. Among the seven yachts so far entered are the 34ft sloop, Lahara, whose New Zealand owner, Mr Des Ashton, has been in New Guinea for several years, and the sloop, Samuel Pepys, on loan to the Royal Naval Sailing Association from the British Naval Academy. The others are the new 57ft steel cutter. Solo; the 40ft sloop. Carol J; the sloop. Serenade: the new Sydney yawl. Catriona: and the Tasmanianbuilt 52ft cutter, Winston Churchill.
