NAPIER WOOL SALE

Further Gain In Values

FLEECES AND NECKS UP 2} PER CENT. (New Zealana Press Association) NAPIER. November 16. Fleece wools and necks were quoted at 2J per cent, dearer on the first day’s prices when the selling was completed on the second day of the Napier wool sale today. The official report states that the offering of approximately half of 42.532 bales was submitted to a fully representative bench of buyers. The offering covered a representative selection of crossbred qualities and types, drawn from all Hawke’s Bay, Poverty Bay. and East Coast districts, and consisted mainly of good top making wools, w’ 4 -’. a proportion of spinners, paper felts and some carding. Although the fleece wool opened up in quite good condition, and was characteristic of the good growing year, some lines showed a little yellowness and tender staple, while bellies and pieces were in many cases discoloured, and off lots were more muddy than usual. All descriptions met with animated competition, with the Continent being the principal buyer, while America and Japan bid keenly for preparing and paper felt' wools. Bradford buyers bought sparingly. Compared with the first day’s prices, fleece wool and necks are quoted at 2$ per cent, dearer, with oddments in sellers’ favour. Prices for paper felts ranged from 60d to 70d, but bids for this type of wool were generally some pence lower than on the first day, due to lessend Japanese competition.
