A MASTER IN ORGANISING English Builder Behind Carter Homes Mr Maurice R. Carter (shown below) is the dynamic personality behind the Carter homes which are arousing such interest in Christchurch. His own unusual career probably accounts for the variety and freshness of the ideas he brings to his new subdivisions. Mr Carter spent his early years in Jamaica where his father, a skilled chemist, managed the production of dyes from timber. After schooling in England, Mr Carter served his time as a- building apprentice and stilj insists on true British craftsmanship. I A unique interlude was two years spent on a citrus plantation 1000 miles inland from Buenos Aires in South Ainerica, and visits to most American Republics. Perhaps this explains his skill in designing homes to get the sunshine. Mr Carter came to New Zealand in 1938. After the war he set up his own firm. Quality is the keynote of Maurice R. Carter Limited; but even more important is its organisation. Although Mr Carter personally supervises all his buildings, he spends most of the time in his office directing an organisation which is establishing a name for genius in the speed and standard of its undertakings.
