REEFTON BANDSMAN HONOURED
LIFE MEMBERSHIP OF ENGLISH CLUB (New Zealand Press Association) GREYMOUTH. September 21 A Reefton bandsman has joined a select few New Zealanders as an honorary life member of the National Brass Band Club of England. Advice of his admission to the club was received this week. The bandsman is Mr A. E. Elliston r a veteran member of the Reefton Band. When the badge and certificate arrive from England the National Brass Band Club of New Zealand will arrange a formal presentation. Mr Elliston was sponsored (membership cannot be applied for) by Mr R. J. Estall, of Christchurch, and Dr Denis Wright, the English composer and conductor. One* of the qualifications for membership is 50 years’ service as a bandsman. Mr Elliston is believed to be only the sixth New Zealander to become a member of the British club.
