OBITUARY

MR J. C. MACPHERSON

The death has occurred of Mr John Colin Macpherson, who since 1920 had been well known as a manufacturers’ representative throughout New Zealand and particularly in Christchurch. At various times he travelled for mantles, millinery, hosiery, furs and menswear. Before coming to New Zealand Mr Macpherson had been in business on his own account in his native Scotland. He was 84 years of age. He retired from work recently because of failing sight and had been living in Nelson. He was an active I worker for many good causes, including the New Zealand Foundation for the Blind. Mr Macpherson is survived by his wife, one son and two daughters. MR J. O. The death occurred recently of Mr John Oldham Johnson, a former member of the Wellington Harbour Board and for many years secretary of the Wellington Waterside Workers’ Union. Mr Johnson had a 40-year record of service with the Labour movement. He was president of the Wellington —abour Representation Committee from 1936 to 1941), and a member of the national executive committee of the Labour Party from 1941 to 1950. He is survived by his wife.
