A RADIO COMPETITION

Sir,—Throughout New Zealand, by newspaper advertisements and radio, a competition is being conducted with tremendous prizes at stake. What guarantee has a competitor that his entry is opened, considering the very large number of entries? When the results are made public, usually over the radio each week, the names of the winners are given, but no indication of the contents of the all-impor-tant sentence. Last year when a similar contest was held and the grandest prize of all was awarded on the competitors’ arrangement of the listed points, it was stated that no-one had put them in their correct order, but again no indication was given of whai was the correct order. The winning entries should be read out and the correct order of the points given at the conclusion of the contest.—Yours, etc., INTERESTED. August 19, 1956. . I The New Zealand Broadcasting Service replies that (1) the slogan?are designed for other advertising media than radio, and that the objects of the advertiser and the policy of the service accord in the present arrangement; (2) the repute of the advertiser is behind the assurance, accepted by the service, that all entries are opened and judged. The correspondent may not have noticed the published condition of the competition that no correspondence will be entered into.]
