WAR SERVICE AND SUPERANNUATION
Sir,—The Government Superannuation Board has recently provided, for former servicemen who joined Government departments and associated organisations within a. year of their discharge, to have their period of war service counted for superannuation purposes. The serviceman is required to pay into the fund an amount, with interest, equivalent to normal contributions during the \ ar years. But the board rules that this plan applies only to former servicemen who are still contributing to the fund. The man who has reached retiring age or who, because of ill-health, has been obliged to retire early, is debarred. Many who volunteered for the Main Body and early reinforcements of the 1914-18 war have recently reached retiring age. Most of those of later reinforcements have stil] a little time to go. The former are denied a concession extended to the latter. I have no pecuniary interest in the matter but ask, “What sort of justice is this?”— Yours, etc., E. R. HUDSON. August 6, 1956. [The Minister in charge of the Government Superannuation Lund (the Hon. D. J. Eyre) replied that he did not consider this letter warranted any comment.]
