DR. KINSEY, EXPERT ON SEX, DIES
(Rec. 7 p.m.) BLOOMINGTON (Indiana), Aug. 25. Dr. Alfred C. Kinsey, the 62-year-old biologist, noted for his books on sexual behaviour, died today after a brief illness. He had been suffering from heart trouble and pneumonia Dr. Kinsey entered the Bloomington Hospital on Wednesday, but the seriousness of his condition was not known until Friday afternoon. Dr Kinsey was professor of zoology at Indiana University from 1929 until recently. With the publication in 1948 of “Sexual Behaviour in the Human Male.” and in 1953 of “Sexual Behaviour in the Human Female ” Dr Kinsey and his colleagues completed the first of a several-volume investigation which has been described as the’ most extensive survey of its kind ever undertaken. These “Kinsey Reports,” based on interviews with thousands of men and women, have caused him to be compared with Sigmund Freud and Havelock Ellis as a pioneer in the field of sex research. Some critics have condemned his
work as “dangerous” and “useless.” but others have praised his candour in dealing with human relationships.
