Heavy Lamb Losses In N.S.W. Storm
(Rec. 11 p.m.) SYDNEY, August 26. Stock losses, particularly of young lambs, were again heavy in parts of eastern Australia during the weekend as Antarctic winds brought bliz zard conditions. Thousands more lambs perished m western areas of New South Wales and in the midlands of Tasmania. Snowploughs yesterday brought relief to snowbound towns in the southern alps. At Tumut, in the Snowy Mountains, three seriously injured men lay helpless for 10 hours in a blinding snowstorm after a gelignite charge exploded in a tunnel, causing the tali of tons of ice and snow around them Snow drifts of up to six feet prevented rescuers from reaching the injured men for some hours. Snowmobiles cleared the road ahead of the ambulance which took the injured men to hospital.
