Members of the council of the Christchurch Free Kindergarten Association stood in silence at their recent monthly meeting as a mark of respect to the memory of Sir R. Heaton Rhodes, who died recently. Appreciation of his interest in the movement was expressed. The Minister of Education (Mr R M. Alsie) will onen the new Timaru Mam School on September 8. and the Banks Avenue School, Shirley on November 14. Sir William Jordan, the former New Zealand High Commissioner in London, returned to Auckland yesterday in the Persic, after an absence nt four months. He spent six weeks in London visiting his sister, Mrs A. Laundv —(PA S > daughter ’ Dr - Gwen Air Vice-Marshal C. E. Kay. Chief of Air Staff, has had his age for retirement extended for two years from June 25, 1956. He is 54.
John Lanterman, of the United States Army, arrived at Auckland in the Oronsay yesterday to take U 4 P «i e * pos,t,on military attache at the American Embassy in Wellington. He will replace Colonel J G Hearne, jun., who has held the post for three years.—(P.A.) Creighton, of Fairlie, has been appointed postmaster at Lincoln. He will take up his new position at the end of the month. He replaces Mr A. E. Davis, who has been promoted to a (similar position at Akaroa.
