Threat To Americans In Germany

(N.Z. Press Association —Copyright) (Rec. 9 p.m.)

HEIDELBERG (Germany), July 11. United States Army officers are being besieged by letters demanding that they leave Germany or face the ■wrath of an organisation calling itself the “Fighting Association for an Independent Germany.” This was disclosed today by a spokesman for the Army’s European Headquarters. “The letters are almost dead ringers for the stuff the Chinese Communists sent around during the Korean war,” he said. There was speculation that the letters might be the work of a Neo-Nazi organisation. Each of the letters bore the admonition: “The patience of the German nation ... is at its end. Go home now, before it is too late. Our call will be followed by deeds. We are resolved to use whatever means possible in our holy struggle.” The letter went mainly to top ranking officers—generals and colonels.
