WATER SYSTEM FOR SCHOOL GROUNDS

DEPARTMENT REFUSES GRANT The Education Department has declined an application from the Linwood High School board of governors for a grant of £225 10s to cover the cost of installing a sprinkler system in the school grounds, but the board decided at a meeting last evening to meet the cost of the work from its own funds. Members of the board felt that it was essential to have the grass-sown playing fields well-watered during the summer months because of the sandy nature of the soil. The department informed the board that it was not the department’s policy to provide funds for the irrigation of school grounds and could not approve a grant for supplying water to the playing fields.
