NEW LICENCES AND PLATES
LAST-MINUTE RUSH BY MOTORISTS
Motorists who had not renewed their driving licences or reregistered their vehicles earlier were involved in a last-minute rush yesterday. It was a busy day at the offices of the Christchurch City Council and at the motor registration branch of the Post Office in Hereford street.
At the council chambers it was the busiest day of the month for the issue of licences. During the day 1281 licences were issued—l2l more than on Thursday, the previous busiest day. So far 14.920 licences have been renewed. A few hundred may have also been renewed at branches at New Erichton and at Sumner. The motor registration branch was open to deal with the last-minute rush for an hour last evening, and it will be open again between 8.30 a.m. and 11.30 a.m. today. Up till Thursday evening 41,088 vehicles had been reregistered.
