ATHLETIC GEAR STOLEN

EFFECT ON TRAINING OF MISS V. SLOPER

Among the gear taken were several shots and discuses, some of which were used by Miss Sloper in her training, and ° f * training running shoes. No attempt had been made to remove a javelin and a broken 161 b hammer. Another shot and a discus covered bv p aoer escaped the notice of the intruders. The remaining discus is a regulation women s one, and it is of little use to Miss Sloper at present, for during the winter she uses the heavier junior discus to build up strength. The theft was discovered by Mr V Briedis, who coaches Miss Sloper, on Thursday evening. It is thought that the gear was removed on Tuesday or Wednesday night, for it was put away as usual after training on the Monday evening. when inquiries were made by the club secretary (Mr C. Sanderson) at some sports stores yesterday morning, he was unable to buy another discus for Miss Sloper. As there is not a great demand for this type of equipment, it is usually obtained by special order.
