KINDERGARTEN BALL
MANY GUESTS ATTEND Large bowls of artificial spring blossoms and flax leaves painted silver and pink and white flowers set in driftwood decorated the ballroom and lounges at the Winter Garden for the annual ball of the combined committees of the Riccarton and Fendalton Free Kindergartens last evening. A feature of the decorations admired by the guests, numbering more than 400, was the coloured paintings depicting nursery rhyme characters and various aspects of kindergarten life placed above each alcove. These were the work of two mothers of children attending the kindergartens. On the supper tables were silver cones, blossom. and candles.
During the evening a novelty item was presented by Miss Maree Hunter.
The guests were welcomed by the convener of the ball and president of the Fendalton Free Kindergarten (Mrs H. C. Wilson) and the president ot the Riccarton Free Kindergarten (Mrs R. W. Jones) They included Mrs F E. Burrell, president of the Christchurch Free Kindergarten Association. Mrs P. Byrne, G. Ferris, and K H. Sam Pd. members of the executive. A frock of black chiffon velvet and a net stole lightly interwoven with silver thread was worn by Mrs Burrell Mrs Wilson’s frock of silver-grey French lame brocade with a softlydraped bodice, V-neckline. and folded shoulder straps was worn with an avocado-ereen stole. Gold embossed lame was worn by Mrs Jones. It featured a halter neckline, and at the low waistline was a large bow. Her stole of white tulle was embroidered in spangles.
