N.Z. PLUMBING APPRENTICES

LYTTELTON MAN WINS MEDALLION

The James Douglas Medallion for excellence among apprentices has been awarded by the New Zealand Society of Master Plumbers to Mr James Ronald Stark, of 21 Brittan terrace, Lyttelton. The medallion was struck in 1948 by the society to commemorate the outstanding services of Mr James Douglas, of Dunedin, who was for 33 years a member of the New Zealand Plumbers’ Board, and to encourage apprentices to excel in their examinations and in their work. Mr Douglas is a former Mayor of Dunedin and is still living there in retirement. The award is made to the New Zealand plumbing apprentice whose work and examination record is most outstanding. Mr Stark commenced his apprenticeship with W. G. G. Taylor and Company, of Lyttelton, and passed his final trade certificate examination in plumbing with the following marks:— theory. 95 per cent; practical. 72 per cent.; the first being the highest score ever recorded by a medallion winner. His earlier results were consistently high. Mr Stark has now qualified as a registered plumber.
