MOTOR VEHICLE RELICENSING
18,996 COMPLETED TO DATE
So far 18,996 motor vehicles have been relicensed at the motor registration branch of the Post and Telegraph Department in Hereford street and at the principal suburban - post offices. This is an increase of 4200 vehicles compared with the corresponding period last year.
“With only eight working days to go before the end of the month we are less than half way through the relicensing. The total number of vehicles on the register is 55,988. The tempo of business is expected to increase considerably in the next few days.” an officer of the department said yesterday. A staff of 54, including 31 permanent Post Office employees and 23 supplementary workers, handle 1200 registrations a day at the rate of about 24 every five minutes.
Vehicles have to be registered by July 1.
