CHINESE LABOUR LEADER

VISIT TO CHRISTCHURCH THIS MONTH A leading Chinese trade unionist, Mr Chang Tien-min. president of the Building Workers’ Union of China, will arrive in Christchurch on June 16. Mr Chang, accompanied by his interpreter, Mr Mo Chen-chiu, will be the guest of the New Zealand Carpenters’ Union, the Canterbury Drivers’ Union, and probably the Canterbury Tramway Workers’ Union. It has been arranged for him to visit factories and jobs, and a function will be arranged for him to meet executives of trade unions and others. Mr Chang’s building union has 600.000 members. He is also a member of the executive of the All-China Federation of Trade Unions and the National People's Congress—the Chinese Parliament.
