U.S. Dogs To Be Taught Not To Bite Postmen

(Rec. 11.30 p.m.) WASHINGTON, June 5. A score of experts in the complex field of postman-dog relationships decided today that the long-standing problem of bitten letter carriers cannot be settled in a single afternoon There will be further discussion. But it was announced after four hours of closed-door sessions that a Post Office “dog-bite action programme’’ had been prepared. It had been agreed that what was basically needed was an educational programme among dog-owners and

postmen to cut down casualties. At a press conference after the discussions. Mr C. R. Habbison. a New York dog psychologist, supported the education programme. “People call me and say their dog is crazy; in 98 per cent, of the cases, nothing is wrong w’ith the dog; it’s the owner who is crazy,” he said. “The average dog-owner can't compete with the mind of a dog. “If we can get the education across. I think we will have a lot of better dog-owners when the programme is finished,” he added.
