EIGHTEEN DEBUTANTES PRESENTED The Villa Maria College Old Girls’ Association held its third debutante ball in the Winter Garden last even- , ing. and 18 former pupils of the college ' were presented to the Roman Catholic ■ Bishop of Christchurch (the Most Rev. E. M. Joyce) by the president (Mrs J Standring). White frocks, several featuring ■ seouin and rhinestone trimming, were ;. worn by the girls, whn w*»rr» trained for the ceremony by Mrs Wilson. Flowers in autumn tunings were used in the decorative thf'me. and as j. the debutantes entered the ballroom ; they passed through an archwav of, c'reenerv and flowers. On the supper tables there were white fleral arrange- I ments. fruit and tracing silver leaves I Lighted vnUow candles were set in silver candelabra. The officia l guests included Bishop Joyce. Jeanette Watkins. A ileen Dowling. Lucv J»nnins« Joan Rrovm, Sfonhanin Rad’ey. Mirjam Smith. Judith Hinds. T.ois Steele. Rronda Eales. T.orpita Skertor. r av Deiahunty. Margaret M r, Erlain. Colleen McGuinness, and Therese Honorn Mrs Standrine’s frock was a sapphire blue naoer taffeta, with the bodice embroidered in sequins of a deener Hue. At the waist-line of the flowing «;kirt. with back-fullness, was a matching bow. Flame rose lace nylon was worn bv Miss C. M. Ive. secretsrv of the association. The fitting bodice had a wide neckline, and the skirt mounted on taffeta, formed double fan pleats. Pishop Joyce congratulated the debutante? on their entry into social life, and for them, thanked all who had helped to make their evening a happy occasion.
