REDEFECTTON OF RUSSIANS

THIRTY GO HOME FROM AUSTRALIA (N.Z. Press Association—Cornjright) MELBOURNE. May 7. Immigration authorities and security officials are checking on why groups of Russian migrants in Australia have suddenly decided to return to the Soviet. They are trying to find out if the migrants have received threats from overseas. This year about 30 Russian migrants have left Australia and 80 more are exoected to leave soon. Twelve will leave Melbourne this week, including one family of five. Most of the Russians leaving Australia have passports issued by the Soviet Legation in New Zealand, according to Melbourne papers. The Minister of Immigration (Mr Harold Holt) said in Melbourne yesterday that although no big exodus of migrants from Australia to Iron Curtain countries has been reported to him, the Federal Government would be greatly concerned if there was any improper pressure being exerted to get migrants to return. There are nearly 20,000 Russians living in Australia.
