Australia To Make High Explosives
(Rec. 8 p.m.) CANBERRA, May 7. Two new high explosives will be manufactured in Melbourne factories next year, the Minister for Defence Production (Sir Eric Harrison) said last night.
The two new explosives, R.D.X. —Research Department Explosive—and nitro-guanadine (or picrite), are made from coal, air and water, and both are white crystalline solids. R.D.X. was the most powerful explosive used in filling ammunition, apart from atomic explosives. Sir Eric Harrison said.
Production of the new explosives marked the start of a new phase of defence preparedness, and was the result of happy co-operation with the United Kingdom.
