MAN KILLED WHEN CAR CAPSIZES

COMPANION INJURED (New Zealand Press Association) PALMERSTON NORTH. May 6. When a car capsized at the Waitarere turn-off. near Levin, at 12.15 a.m. today, a man was killed, and another man suffered injuries which necessitated his admission to the Palmerston North Hospital. The man killed was: Mr A. W. Wishart. of 230 Taranaki street. Wellington. The injured man is Mr F. K. Lamberg. of Lyall Bay. Wellington. His condition tonight was reported to be comfortable. DUCKSHOOTER DROWNED ATTEMPT TO RECOVER BIRD FROM RIVER (New Zealand Press Association) PALMERSTON NORTH. May 6. A man who was duckshooting along the lower reaches of the Rangitikei river got into deep water and was droivned when he was attempting to recover a shot bird about 3.30 p.m. today. He was William Tucker, aged 60. of Morris street, Palmerston North. By nightfall, the Marton police had failed to recover his body. They will resume the search tomorrow. The accident occurred about three miles above the Punepuhi bridge. Mr Tucker had brought down a duck, which fell into the river. When he was wading out to recover it, he was swept off his feet. DUCKSHOOTER MISSING MAN DISAPPEARS UNDER WATER (New Zealand Press Association) MASTERTON, May 6. A duck shooter, Wilfred Ross Pildsley, aged 27. of Dannevirke, disapceared while trying to retrieve a swan in the Narrows. Lake Wairarapa, at dusk on Saturday evening. Mr Pildsley was seen wading into the water. He disappeared suddenly under water, and did not reappear. A police party under Constable J. R. Frain. of Martinborough, is searching for Mr Pildsley. DRIVER KILLED SMALL GIRL INJURED (New Zealand Press Association) DUNEDIN. May 6. Joseph Henderson, aged 48. of 4 Witham street, Oamaru. was killed when the car he was driving near Georgetown overturned at 4.30 p.m. today. The other occupant of the car. Anthea Smith, aged three, a granddaughter of Mr Henderson, suffered j cuts and shock. She was admitted to | the Oamaru Public Hospital, where i her condition tonight was satisfactory.] PEDESTRIAN DIES OF INJURIES A pedestrian who was struck by a car in St. Asaph street at 8.55 p.m. on Saturday died in the Christchurch Public Hospital at 1.40 a.m. yesterday. He was: Alexander Brown, aged 69, of the Aranui motor camp. Mr Brown suffered severe head injuries. The car was driven by Cliffton Halliday, of 8 Blake street, Rangiora. SMALL BOY FALLS FORTY FEET ESCAPE WITH FRACTURE OF ARM (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, May 5. Mathew Allen, aged four, of Wellington. on Saturday fell over a 40-foot cliff near the new Tahurangi Hut, in National Park. He escaped with a fracture of an arm. The boy was staying at the Tahurangi Hut with his mother. He off alone at 9 a.m., and was not found until 6 p.m. He was brought down to the Chateau Tongariro by the assistant manager (Mr S. F. Greenslade) and Mr G. Milne, and then taken to the Taumarunui Hospital. CAR STRIKES POWER POLE Head injuries were suffered by Walter Morton Ollivier, of 109 Merivale lane, when his car struck a power pole on the corner of Repton street and Merivale lane at 7.33 a.m. on Saturday. Mr Ollivier was admitted to the Christchurch Public Hospital, where his condition is reported to be satisfactory. POWER-CYCLIST INJURED When a car and the power-cycle he was riding collided on the Waltham road bridge at 6.35 p.m. on Saturday. William George Forrester, of 206 Brougham street, suffered injuries which caused his admission to the Christchurch Public Hospital. The car was driven by Douglas David Kelly, of 14 Croydon street. Mr Forrester’s condition is reported to be satisfactory. BOY INJURED BY EXPLOSIVES (From Our Own Reporter) GREYMOUTH, May 5. John Neville, a 15-year-old boy, of Fifth street. Kumara. severely injured his left hand today while handling exolosives at'his home. He was admitted to the Grey Hospital. John did not lose any fingers but his hand was badly damaged. FOOTBALLER INJURED Edward Tikao, of Rapaki. suffered head injuries when playing in a football match at Lyttelton yesterday. He was attended by Dr. P. A. M. Heath and taken to the Christchurch Public Hospital by . a St. John ambulance. His condition last night was reported to be satisfactory.
