2500 MILES ON HORSE-BACK
WOMAN’S LONE RIDE THROUGH N.Z. (From Our Own Reporter) GREYMOUTH, May 5. Mi s Hazel Astbury, a Channel Islander, who is touring New Zealand on horse-back, has nothing but praise for the many people she has met along the way. When she reached Greymouth this week, over the Otira gorge route, she had already covered 2500 miles, and was returning to Wellington to complete her North Island tour. As soon as she arrived in Auckland last year Miss Astbury made inquiries for a horse. After receiving many offers, she chose her present mount. Tinker. She rode through the North Island and went south to Invercargill. From Greymouth she will go north through Westport and Picton, cross to Wellington, and then uo to Morrinsville. In September, she will sail for Australia. Before coming to New Zealand. Miss Astbury had already explored Italy and Switzerland on horse-back. After touring Australia, she intends to go on to Canada. While in New Zealand Miss Astbury has never had to sleep out.
