J. James (Westport): (1) Emil Zatopek has won four gold medals at the Olympics. He won the 10 000 metres and was second in the 5000 metres in 1948. In 1952 he won the 5000 metres. 10.000 metres and the marathon. (2) Yes. Roger Bannister competed at the Canterbury Centennial Games in December, 1950. He ran the mile in 4min 9.9 sec and was officially credited with a New Zealand record of 4min lOsec. (3) New Zealand has played the most tests in one season—three against Pakistan, five against India and four against West Indies this season.
